Edgewood, Md. –  The Maryland Society for Educational Technology (MSET) is proud to announce its April/May 2018 Digital Learning Showcase recipient Rachael Hulme Cox, a fine arts teacher from Edgewood High School.

Hulme is known for her ability to enhance student learning of photography in practical methods. She also utilizes the power of social media to assist her students in networking and presenting their work to a great audience.

"Rachael interacts with her students uniquely in that she treats students as respected intellectual equals. She demonstrates that she values their thoughts and opinions by truly listening when they contribute and by questioning them to further their thought process," Chasity Harrell, assistant principal at Edgewood High, explained Hulme makes each student feel values for who they are and by elevating the expectations for learning. "Students feel empowered by her respect for them as learners, which is evident in the intellectual and artistic risks they are willing to take in her classroom."

Among Hulme's dedication to providing authentic learning opportunities for students that extend beyond her classroom, she engages students in artistic participation with the world at large by making them aware of real world opportunities and by participating in many of those opportunities herself. Additionally, she seeks ways to engage her students in conversation and action related to the art community and its impact.

"Ms. Hulme inspires her students by practicing her art form each and everyday with her students.  She uses technology to promote her artwork and increase her knowledge of technological resources that she can provide her students," Harford County Public Schools' Fine Arts Supervisor Jeffrey Winfield stated.
