MSETSession Title: Accessible Educational Material (AEM): Designing for All
Session Description: Learn tips for making table formatting, font, color, pictures/images/screenshots, and video more accessible for all learners.
Bio: Amy Boehman-Pollitt graduated with a B.S. in elementary education from Mount Saint Mary’s University and later returned to earn a M.S. in Instructional Technology. As of 1997, she began her career with Frederick County Public Schools (MD) where she taught elementary school for 10 years. In 2007 she accepted a position as a county Technology Resource Teacher and coached teachers on how to effectively integrate technology to engage and motivate all learners. Finally, in 2013, she transitioned to the Assistive Technology Team where she works with teachers to effectively use iPads to meet the needs of special education students and promotes inclusive design through Google accessibility. She has presented at local, state and national conferences and has served as an instructional technology adjunct professor for Mount Saint Mary’s University.

Bio: Heather McCarthy Rose graduated with a B.S. in Equine Science and started work as a barn manager, assistant trainer, and assistant editor for an international horse magazine. Her love of children and teaching riding lessons brought her to Mount Saint Mary’s University for a Master in Elementary Education with Dual Certification in Special Education. Newly learned technology skills from the desktop publishing industry catapulted her into the world of Instructional Technology. In 1998 she began her career as an adjunct college professor teaching a course titled Technology for Learning at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her career with Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) began in 2000 and includes seven years teaching 4th through 7th grades. In 2007, Heather enthusiastically accepted the position of Technology Resource Teacher (TRT) and was able to refine her skills as an instructional technology integration coach. Between 2010 and 2012, Heather took an opportunity to work as an independent contractor traveling all over North America coaching teachers on instructional technology. After the birth of her daughter in 2012, she returned to FCPS and soon after moved into a position in the Curriculum Department specifically supporting instructional technology integration for Secondary Social Studies teachers and curriculum. Most recently, Heather accepted a position as a Teacher Specialist for Innovative Learning for FCPS where she supports innovation in teaching and learning across all Curriculum Departments.

The Maryland Society for Educational Technology is excited to partner with Loyola University Maryland to host an all all-day Sphero Workshop for K-12 Teachers, Administrators, and Higher Education faculty on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 8:30am-2:15pm.
The event is being hosted at the Loyola's Timonium Graduate Center (2034 Greenspring Drive, Timonium, MD, 21093) and will feature keynote speaker Dr. Sarah Thomas, a regional technology coordinator for Prince George's County Public Schools.
The cost is $25 for non-MSET members and includes breakfast and lunch.

Session Title: ChatGPT and AI in Education
Session Description: This webinar provides a comprehensive overview of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications in education, with a focus on the language model ChatGPT. Attendees will learn about how AI works, its benefits and limitations, and ethical considerations surrounding its use. This webinar covers potential applications of ChatGPT in education, such as personalized learning and language generation, and provides best practices for using AI in the classroom to ensure equity and responsibility. The webinar includes hands-on opportunities for attendees to explore ChatGPT and deepen their understanding of AI and its applications in education.
Bio: Caleb Wilson is an Instructional Technology & Innovation Specialist in Worcester County Public Schools. Prior to his current role, Caleb served as a middle school science teacher at Stephen Decatur Middle School (Berlin, MD).
