The Making IT Happen Award was established by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) to recognize outstanding educators and leaders who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment, leadership, courage, and persistence in improving digital learning opportunities for students. As an ISTE Affiliate, the Maryland Society for Educational Technology (MSET) proudly presents the state-level Making IT Happen Award annually to a Maryland educator or leader who exemplifies the transformative power of educational technology.

This award highlights the unwavering dedication of individuals who are leading innovation and change across schools, districts, or educational communities through the effective and visionary use of technology. The Maryland recipient is also forwarded for consideration in ISTE’s international Making IT Happen Award process.

Description

The Making IT Happen Award honors outstanding educators and leaders who demonstrate extraordinary commitment, leadership, courage, and persistence in advancing digital learning opportunities for students. Presented annually by MSET as an ISTE Affiliate, this prestigious award recognizes individuals in Maryland who embody the spirit of innovation and advocacy for educational technology. State-level recipients are forwarded to the ISTE Making IT Happen international award process for additional recognition.

Aims and Objectives

  • To recognize individuals who have had a significant impact on digital learning in Maryland.

  • To celebrate visionary leadership and sustained efforts that support educational technology integration.

  • To promote the advancement of MSET’s and ISTE’s shared vision of empowered learners and innovative educators.

  • To elevate role models whose work inspires excellence and transformation through technology.

Nominations

Nominations may be submitted by any member of the educational community. Nominees should demonstrate a sustained record of leadership and innovation in the use of technology to improve student outcomes. Nominations should provide compelling evidence of the nominee’s influence, vision, and contributions to educational technology.

All nomination materials are confidential and will not be returned. Selection is highly competitive and based on alignment with the award’s core values.

Award Gift

Winners receive the signature embroidered Making IT Happen jacket, a commemorative pin, certificate, a one-year Basic MSET membership, and promotional materials. They are also honored during the MSET Spring Conference and promoted through ISTE’s international network.

Application Deadline

Nominations and supporting materials must be submitted by February 14.
